9 YOF used hoverboard for day, off & on until charge was about to run out. She turned it on next morning & lights flashed like battery was running out, so she tried to turn it off. It wouldn't turn off, then it made popping sound & started to smoke. Unit was took outside.

  • Incident Description: I bought my son a 6.5 classis hoverboard - Smart Balance Scooter a couple years ago. He used it a few times and it has been sitting for longer than he used it. He gave it to my daughter last week since he doesn't use it anymore. My daughter used it for a day off and on until the charge was about to run out. She turned in on the next morning and the lights flashed like the battery was running out, so she tried to turn it off. It wouldn't turn off, then it made a loud popping sound and started to smoke. We quickly took it outside as to not burn down my house.
